West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval 2026
31 October 2026
West Hollywood, California, United States, Los Angeles, EUA

Halloween in West Hollywood is not a minor seasonal diversion. More than 100,000 people are expected to descend on Santa Monica Boulevard for the city's Halloween Carnaval, with a mile of the street given over to costumes, music and some extremely committed displays of flesh, makeup and imagination.
The Carnaval takes place right through the Rainbow District, West Hollywood's historic LGBTQ+ neighborhood. This is a huge public event rather than an exclusively gay festival, but it unfolds among many of WeHo's gay bars and clubs. The city's queer culture has been part of the celebration since its early years.

What happens at the Halloween Carnaval?
Santa Monica Boulevard closes between North Doheny Drive and North La Cienega Boulevard, creating a mile-long street party through the center of West Hollywood.
There is a main stage at Santa Monica Boulevard and North San Vicente Boulevard with a live DJ, plus food trucks and an enormous crowd circulating between the Carnaval and surrounding venues. Entry is free and you don't need a ticket.
The real attraction, though, is the crowd. Halloween costumes in WeHo are not confined to a witch's hat bought on the way out of CVS. Expect elaborate homemade creations, drag, barely-there outfits, pop culture references and people who have clearly been planning October 31 since November 1.
Why is West Hollywood Halloween so gay?
Location, location, location.
The Carnaval runs directly through the Rainbow District, one of the best-known gay nightlife neighborhoods in the US. Santa Monica Boulevard is lined with LGBTQ+ venues, so the official street event and the gay scene effectively occupy the same piece of West Hollywood for the night.
The Carnaval itself dates back to 1987 and grew out of West Hollywood's culture of diversity and self-expression. Today it attracts visitors from well beyond the LGBTQ+ community, but if you're a gay traveler looking for a major American Halloween celebration, there are few places where the surrounding neighborhood is quite this gay.

What happens after 11 pm?
The official Carnaval finishes at 11 pm, but West Hollywood does not suddenly call it a night.
The surrounding bars, clubs, hotels and entertainment venues continue their Halloween celebrations after the street event ends. You can leave and re-enter the Carnaval area during the evening, making it easy to move between the street party and nearby venues.
One important detail: you cannot buy or drink alcohol on the Carnaval street route itself. Save that part of the evening for the bars.
Getting to West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval
Do not build your evening around finding a convenient parking space near Santa Monica Boulevard. Road closures are extensive and the area gets extremely busy.
For 2026, the free WeHo Halloween Ride runs from 6 pm until 3 am along Santa Monica Boulevard between North La Brea Avenue and North Kings Road. Selected vehicles will also connect with Hollywood/Highland Metro Station until midnight. Rideshare and public transportation are strongly encouraged.
If you're visiting LA specifically for Halloween, staying in West Hollywood removes a considerable amount of transport drama and puts you within walking distance of both the Carnaval and the gay nightlife.
